Spectacular environmental awards success

The Fordingbridge Flood Defence Scheme won the Sustainable Construction and Environmental Enhancement category.

The Team Van Oord partnership was a triple winner in the prestigious 2006 Environment Agency Project Excellence Awards.

The Project Excellence Awards recognise the contributions of the whole project team - framework suppliers and the Environment Agency’s internal staff. 48 projects across England and Wales were put forward for the 2006 awards.

Team Van Oord won two of the four award categories- and then received the ultimate accolade of Overall Winner.

Team Van Oord’s first success was in the Management of Health, Safety and Environmental Risk category. The winning scheme was the £2.95m Greylake Sluice improvement project, near Bridgewater, Somerset.

The partnership's other win was in the Sustainable Construction and Environmental Enhancement category. This time the winning scheme was the £6.5m Fordingbridge Flood Defence Scheme in Hampshire (see pic) - a system of flood defences on the River Avon, Ashford Water and Allen Brook to protect 450 homes.

The judging panel commented: "We were particularly impressed by the highly professional approach to delivering projects effectively and efficiently, which was evident throughout, together with the passionate commitment to integrated team working, making peoples lives better and improving the environment."
